Sarees Builds Your Persona

Sarees are one of the most talked types of costume from years. People adorn the drape, yet they feel jittery when it comes to draping it. The reason for nervousness is apparent, and that is draping a 5-yard cloth. The length and breadth of the fabric gives a feeling of tension; what if it opens up in the running around? Oh, it is too much to carry around; the pleats, the pallu and limitations one feels while walking due to the little flare. Yet when you wear it, nothing beats the elegance, class, grace and beauty it enhances.

India has a long-standing tradition and a tradition every Indian takes pride. The pride reflects primarily in people who have given their lives to keep this tradition alive. One of them is the loom owners and the artists who work on the intricate weaving and making the threads into a 5-yard saree. Some families are into handlooms making sarees from multiple generations, and they with each next generation are enhancing the product.

Today wearing a saree is a new fashion statement. And further designing a wardrobe with traditional handloom weaves and creating a collection, which not only the woman will wear today but a tradition she will pass on to the next generation. The silks, embroideries, kinds of cotton, the design weaves and so on makes each saree a unique one. Some weaves take months to complete one saree, imagine the effort, dedication goes behind making it.

In the recent past, I visited a loom which is run by 4th generation now. This handloom is from Kota, and they are into the weaving of Kota Doria sarees, be it silk or cotton. Kota Doria sarees have a very peculiar kind of weave forming tiny square forming a checker design. The brand these sarees are sold by is 'THE CHOKHANA WEAVE'. Kota Doria sarees are a rich culture assumed to be part of the history from the 13th century in the court of Bundi. These sarees are so light in weight that it feels like a feather or powder on your skin. The fineness and art that is reflected in these weaves are overwhelming. Crumpling the thread differently for cotton and delicate way for silks require a niche skill and well understanding about the two-pedal looms and formation of the designs to make checks to ensure the integrity of the weave. You can find their collection on their social media pages

Being a saree enthusiast, I was going crazy visiting their loom and exploring the way the artists were working. The dedication and love for creating a fine product is their passion over and above their bread and butter. It is a matter of pride to deliver the quality of the work to keep the tradition alive and integrity of the weave in the hearts of customers.

Next time you see a lady wearing a saree, you will know how that saree makes her look so elegant and graceful. It is the efforts of artists along with her beauty that makes complete persona of her.
